The number of people who drink alcohol is higher
Dr Patil said most hospitals in the state record about 300 deaths a day, of which 30 per cent are due to excessive drinking or alcohol-related incidents. These include drunk driving and diseases such as cancer, stroke and kidney failure.
Signs of alcohol-related liver cirrhosis
According to doctors, some signs and symptoms of alcohol-related cirrhosis develop 3 to 4 years after heavy drinking. In the early stages, your body compensates for the limited function of your liver. As the disease progresses, the symptoms become more frequent and more visible.
Symptoms of alcohol-related cirrhosis
1. Jaundice
2. Portal hypertension, which causes vomiting of blood and swelling of the abdomen, muscle wasting
3. Fatigue and weakness
4. Weight loss or gain
5. Fainting
6. Mood swings
7. Sleep problems
How to protect yourself
Medicines- Doctors may prescribe corticosteroids, insulin, antioxidants and calcium channel blockers.Take care of your health- Drinking too much alcohol can worsen the disease, so stop drinking alcohol.
Extra protein- People who have liver cirrhosis often need more protein in their diet to reduce the risk of developing encephalopathy.
